Hi, I’m Shreyan Jain, a lifelong cinephile currently living in San Francisco. I studied CS and literature at MIT, where I took several film classes on topics ranging from the science fiction genre to the formal theory of film color and the works of Alfred Hitchcock. After struggling to find high-quality yet accessible resources for understanding cinema throughout college, I decided to launch The Fourth Act with the goal of sharing what I’ve learned about film analysis over the years. To learn more about what inspired me to build this website, check out my first post: Why I Started This Blog.
The best way to get in touch is to email me directly at [email protected]. You can also follow me on Twitter and Letterboxd to find more unfiltered reactions, all-time movie rankings, and other hot takes.
While my goal is to keep the content on this site as approachable as I can, I’ve also written some more theoretically oriented, academic-style essays on film in the past. If you’re interested in taking a peek at the kinds of questions and ideas in film theory that most excite me, check out a few of my favorites below.
